To Catch a Wave

I’ve often tried to surf a wave
My tries would fail, however brave
I’d watch the waves and try to see
Their amplitude and frequency
Attempts would end with saddened sighs
It was a most elusive prize

One day, again I fought the fight
And did succeed, to my delight!
The wave approached, I paddled fast
I caught the wave, it didn’t pass
I felt the board accelerate
Accomp’nied with my own heart rate

I reached the wave’s velocity
And popped up with agility
Then I was standing on the sea
While soaring fast and feeling free
The ocean's power did provide
The mechanism for my ride

I surfed eleven times that day
Through cresting waves and ocean spray
By shifting weight I steered the board
I often fell in waves that roared
One ride was so long I did reach
Just past where waves break on the beach
